Claret School of Zamboanga City was established in July 1966 as an exclusive school for boys aimed at providing secondary education for young boys who were aspiring to become future Claretians Fr. Ignacio Blanco, CMF, was the first director with Mr. Pedro Domingo as principal. It was opened to first and second year boys during its first year. In 1968, with Fr. Miguel Vela, CMF as director, the school was converted into a co-educational institution with a new lady principal, Ms. Nelida Barrios. Fr. Luis Rey succeeded Fr. Vela as director of Claret School of Zamboanga from 1970-1976. the high school principal during this time was Ms. Pacita Sta. Teresa.

In the time of Fr. Julian Mateos as director of Claret School of Zamboanga City from 1976-1982, two very important steps were taken which were seen as welcome additions to the growing Claretian family. These were the addition of the elementary unit in the school year 1978-1979 with Mrs. Visitacion Sanchez as principal and the opening of the night high school with Mrs. Juliet Mantilla as Teacher-in charge in the school year 1979-1980. the opening of the night class was intended to provide opportunities to the working boys and girls in the community who have their ambitions and dreams but could not realize them because of lack of programs to attend to them. though there were only two pioneer classes of the night high school, a lot was already accomplished when some of the night high school students took the National Validating Test for acceleration. Some of them were promoted from second year to fourth year high school and some even to college. It was also during his term that the Avellana Bldg. was constructed.

In the last year of Fr. Mateos as director, the high school unit was supervised by new principal, Mrs. Emmelie Fernandez, the grade school unit still Mrs. Visitacion Sanchez and the night high school by Mrs. Virginia Lauron.

From 1982-1994 with Fr. Jesus Vasquez as school director, Claret School of Zamboanga City saw the start of the construction of the school's perimeter fence with the help of the Parents-Teacher Association, a few hundred meters at a time until the whole campus was finally enclosed a few years later. The Claret Gym That took many years to finish due to scarcity of funds had its beginning also during Fr. Vasquez' time. New structures were also added, like the Vilaro Building and the extension of the Xifre Building, and towards the end of his term the beginning of what is now Clotet Building.

The high school principal from 1981-1988 was Mrs. Emmeline Fernandez followed by Mrs. Carolina Legarte from 1988 to 2005. The grade school principal in 1982 was Mr. Antonio Barrios followed by Mr. Rufino Duhaylungsod from 1985 to the present. The night high school head teacher was Mrs. Virginia Lauron from 1981 until its closure in school year 1993-94.

With Fr. Felicisimp B. Tarroza as school director from 1994-1999, some features were added to the to the Claret Gym aimed toward its completion. Fr. Felimon Libot who served as director for only a year, in school year 1999-2000, worked for the upgrading of the employees' salaries.

Two three-storey buildings were constructed from school year 2000 to 2003 when the school director was Fr. Juan Manuel Suñaz with loans from the Claretian Congregation, donation from friends and alumni here and abroad and donation from Agencia Española Cooperacion International.

It is also about this time that the Claret Multi-Purpose Center or the Gym was finally finished and became operational in school Year 2002-2003.

Nestled on a 3.6 hectare campus, Claret School of Zamboanga City could reached from San Jose Road through Ruste Drive and from Canelar Moret through El Paso Road. From the original two buildings, the Sala Building and the Claret Building, the school grew to have many more buildings namely: Jose Xifre Bldg., Mariano Avellana Bldg., Jaime Clotet Bldg., Rhoel Gallardo Bldg., the Claret Multi-Purpose Center of the Gym and the latest three-storey building which has yet to find its name.

Through the years, the main thrust of Claret School of Zamboanga City has been the continuous upgrading of the quality of education and services offered and the strengthening of its financial condition to make it self-sufficient.

The present school director, Fr. Christian James Castro, has his hands full in the accomplishment of the school's five-year development program which the school hopes to embark this school year 2005-2006.

The entire school invokes the Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Anthony Mary Claret, its patrons, to accompany it all the way towards the fulfillment of its mission.
